Week 7: Growth Mindset

I really liked this meme for this weeks growth mindset, because it made me think about my great grandma. My great grandma used to always tell me "Baby you were created to make mistakes. However, the decisions that you make after those mistakes, is what creates your mind". I never really understood what she meant until I listen to the TedX Talk about growth mindset.

Dweck said that, “In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success without effort."

I think that this relates to a lot of children because they spend most of their time trying to make their parents proud, that mindset becomes a fixed trait. The pay close attention to what they are doing instead of how they are doing it and what they can do to improve it.

I think the take away point from this picture is that even though we are going to make mistakes, we should also keep in mind that mistakes are made so that we can learn from them.

  1. I saw that Laura Gibbs actually put a link to this blog post on her own blog! Must be pretty exciting being Growth Mindset famous! ;)
Your grandmother sounds very wise. It seems like she is basically saying that everyone can make mistakes; that is life. However, what you choose to do, if anything, with the lessons learned is what defines you as a person.
